Sewing Bee is for members only. The Sewing Bee was founded in July 2013 due to member interest in learning to sew. We are not all experienced dressmakers, but we are all passionate amateurs! Don’t feel put off if you have never even sewn on a button but you would like to learn. We are very friendly and will happily guide you and help you in any way we can.
We have an active and supportive Facebook group where we can seek advice from each other and share our pattern & fabric finds. We meet up at least once a month, on the third Tuesday of each month to discuss what we have been sewing, show off our creations and share sewing gossip.
We also regularly organise group fabric shopping trips to places such as Walthamstow Market, Goldhawk Road, Crescent Trading and Berwick Street.
In 2014 we held our first Sewing Bee Christmas Cocktail Challenge, where we made our own cocktail dresses and then wore them out for a celebratory cocktail or three! In 2015 we will hold our first Sewing Bee Summer Afternoon Tea Challenge, where we will make a tea dress or day outfit and then wear it out to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea.
We also organise workshops, previous workshops have included:
- Making The Most of Your Sewing Machine with Barley Massey of Fabrications.
- Making a Skirt from an old T-shirt with Sarah Klymikiw of textile recycling charity Traid.
- Creative mending workshop with 2 of our members Juliet and Amanda of R&B Consultants.
- Make a Pattern from a garment you own without taking it apart with Claire-Louise Hardie, The Thrifty Stitcher, sewing producer on BBC 2’s Great British Sewing Bee & member of Stoke Newington WI.
If you are a Member and would like more information on this group, or are interested in teaching a workshop with us (whether you are a member or not) please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org quoting ‘Sewing Bee’ in the subject line.
